Tel Aviv neighbours Jaffa in a bay that for 4000 years has been the location of important ports, but it wasn't until 1909 that Jewish immigrants began to build the part that today is Israel's second city. Despite the city being relatively young, it is on UNESCO's list of world heritage because of its white Bauhaus buildings. Tel Aviv might generally be the country's second city but when it comes to gay life, it is definitely the capital. In addition to a number of clubs and restaurants, targeting LGBT customers, it also has a gay area on the popular beach, located below Hilton hotel. The annual Pride march attracts tens of thousands of marchers and spectators.
