Israel is surrounded by the Mediterranean in the west, in the east by the so Great Syrian-African Rift Valley, and In the south by the Red Sea. It borders Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. The majority of the population in Israel live in the north and central parts of the country. In Israel, and particularly in Jerusalem, the three world religions meet, with everything that comes with them of historical monuments - and unfortunately, anti-gay attitudes from parts of the religious population. However, the country is the most positive in the region to same-sex love. Te Aviv has a large LGBT population with not only huge pride celebrations, but also a vibrating gay nightlife. Every year in Jerusalem, under police protection, Pride is organised by Jerusalem Open House, an organisation that gathers LGBT people from all ethnic, social and religious affiliations. Eilat in the south is a popular holiday resort that attracts many European gay tourists.
