Croatia stretches from the end of the Alps in the northwest to the Pannonian plains and the Danube in the east. The central parts are covered by the Dinaric Alps and in the south the Adriatic Sea defines its border. Croatia has 1185 islands, the largest Cres and Krk, and of them 47 are inhabited. Gay life is found, first and foremost, in Zagreb. At Pride festivals right wing groups have done what they can to cause a disturbance, but these days the marches are protected by police.
