Malaysia is a federation in southeast Asia and consists of two parts: the Peninsular Malaysia and norther Borneo. The country was declared independent in 1957 and is one of the member states in the Commonwealth. Malaysia has a king as head of state, and eack king holds the post for five years. Islam is the official religion. The majority of the population is Malaysian, but there are also many Chinese and Indian as well as aboriginal tribes. The climate is equatorial with reoccuring monsoons. The capital is Kuala Lumpur, but there is an administrative capital for Malaysia's government, called Putrajaya.
