Wiesbaden is the capital of the German state of Hesse. The nearest city is Frankfurt am Main, on the other side of river Rhine. Since the Middle Ages the city has had hot spas, and it has a mild temperate climate. The hot springs have a high level of Natrium Chloride, used in numerous treatments, mainly for rheumatism and bronchitis. The centre of the city and also its symbol is the Kurhaus, with its elegant casino, built in 1907. Narrow winding alleyways stretch through through Wiesbaden's old parts, lined with houses from the 18th and 19th century.
