Formally Dallas became a city the 2nd of February 1856, and with neighbouring cities it forms Dallas-Fort Worth, the forth largest city region in the USA.
Before the country became USA, the Caddo Indians lived here. Then the French arrived and later the Spanish. The latter left Texas when Mexico in 1821 declared its independence. 15 years later the independent republic of Texas was founded. The climate in Texas offers cold winters just above freezing and in the summers temperatures reach over 30 degrees with an average of 36 in August.
