Maastricht is the capital of the province of Limburg and is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The name is derived from the bridge over river Maas, a bridge that was build during the rule of king Augustus. Presently, the name is also known for the treaty where the heads of government in the EG countries, formed the EU and decided to bring in Euro as a common currency.
