Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and the largest city in the country. The port is important for the country's export. Montevideo was founded in 1726 by the Spanish and is situated in the southern part of the country, by big river mouth Río de la Plata. The climate is mild with warm summers. In the middle of the 20th century, military dictatorship and financial stagnation brought the city backwards, which is still visible today. Here you can enjoy the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean or explore the old parts of Montevideo, characterised by Spanish charm. Many consider the meat eaten here the best in the world.
