Kungsbacka has ancestry from the 14th century and was during the Hanseatic times an important but small trading place in the Danish kingdom. As a Danish town it was called Koningsbakkae. Kungsbacka became Swedish in 1645. In 1846 there was a big fire that made the then 500 inhabitants homeless. Today, there are only two houses left from the time before the fire. Present day Kungsbacka has a charming 19th century architecture and river Kungsbackaån runs through the city. Kungsbacka is situated between Gothenburg and Halmstad and is working hard to increase its population. As a tourist it’s visiting the city centre and walking in Kungsbacka forest that attracts, as well as the nearby coast and opportunities for swimming.
