The People’s Republic of China’s capital city and the country’s second biggest city after Shanghai. You will find the country’s thousands of years of history with the Forbidden Palace, temples and other houses, alongside the stunning new modern architecture. You can just shop like crazy in the many shopping malls or just experience being in a major city and, following the 2008 Olympics, there are even more sites and places to visit and enjoy as a tourist. China is still a dictatorship and until recently, homosexuality was viewed in a very negative way. Things are easing up slowly and there is a growing gay scene in the bigger cities. Follow the ‘rules’, as with everything in Communist China. Also, since China’s economic boom started, everyone has changed their bicycles for cars and ruined the air with exhaust fumes!
