Lyon is located in Rhône in the southeastern part of France. Greater Lyon, with 1.7 million inhabitants is the third largest city in France. The city was founded as a Roman colony year 43 B.C., and has a rich history in a very important part of Europe. Lyan was where the Hugenots in 1572 were the target of mass violence during the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacres. This is also where the Lumiére brothers in 1895 invented the technique to show moving images.
Beautifully situated by the rivers of Rhône and Saône, in a mountainous area, the city is worth a visit purely due to this reason.
