The town is situated in the province of North Holland. the town was founded in the 12th century and before the beach tourists arrived it got its main income from fishing. Zandvoort has gay bars by the gay beach, as well as hotels targeting gay guests. The gay beach (primarily men) is located, looking out towards the sea, on the far left by the sand dunes.
