Kralendijk is the capital of island Bonaire in the Netherlands Antilles. The town has a couple of thousand inhabitants, while the island has 17 500. Before the Europeans arrived, the island was inhabited by Caquetio Indians with roots from nearby Venezuelan tribe Arawak. As with neighbouring island Curaçao, this is a holiday paradise with focus on diving. Bonaire is less exploited by tourism and there is no gay scene on the island. However, like Aruba and Curaçao it is a gay friendly island and hence differs greatly from the attitudes in major parts of the West Indies.
