Captivating portraits by acclaimed photographer, writer and Oscar-winning designer Cecil Beaton (1904-1980) are to be exhibited for the first time in Sweden this Summer.

Staged at the Sven-Harrys konstmuseum from 18 June until 30 August 2015, the exhibition will showcase vintage and modern prints from Sotheby’s Cecil Beaton Studio Archive.

Beaton captured from behind his camera lens the great and famous personalities of the 1930s to the 1970s, from iconic actors to eminent artists - his photographs define a glittering generation. The works on view begin with the glamour of the Bright Young Things of the 1930s and reach the heights of decadence with the Rolling Stones in the Sixties.

Highlights from the collection include stunning portraits of Swedish screen goddesses Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergmann. The story of Garbo’s personal relationship with Beaton is legendary, and these photographs bring to light her unique beauty seen through the eyes of one of her closest confidantes.

This exhibition was produced in association with Sotheby´s and the Cecil Beaton Studio Archive, which has managed Beaton’s private archive since 1977.
